I?m afraid with a 2 gallon your options are pretty much limited to a betta fish- and I wouldn?t even keep a betta in a 2 gallon, but that?s my own personal preference.
Someone recommended angelfish- please don?t put an angelfish in a 2 gallon tank LOL they need at bare minimum to start, a 20 gallon, and that would need to be upgraded.
But a betta fish- especially from a pet store- would definitely appreciate a 2 gallon home, just make sure you buy one that looks healthy from one of those horrible tiny bowls. -_-
Do the poor animal a favor and give it a nice little home to stretch it?s fins out 
And if you have a filter and pump provided, you?ll see your betta come to life.
I bought a very unwell looking lone fish from a display ?cup? in Wal Mart. Brought him home, put him in a filtered 5 gallon- voila! Came right to life, what a beautiful fish he is. A lot of people say they?re boring fish- wouldn?t you be boring to watch in a cramped up little box?
