Dozens of parents rally against MO Budget cuts to early childhood ...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Low-income families in Missouri are waiting to hear if the state will take away more money from their children's early education services.

Dozens rallied at Operation Breakthrough on Thursday to protest how state legislators are balancing the state budget. The $10 million dollar cuts affect 4,000 kids in the Kansas City area, and would mean 119 fewer children will be able to go to Early Head Start.

Keira Simpson is two weeks away from going back to work at Children's Mercy after taking an unpaid maternity leave. But now, she'll have to chose between working and childcare.

?

"I want to teach my daughters to be responsible young women and grow up and work and accomplish your goals and be able to support yourself," said Simpson. "If they're looking at me, and my mommy doesn't work, it might give them the wrong idea."

?

Families could learn what specifically will be cut in the next week.
